Ireland's hopes of competing at the 2015 World Cup were boosted with the International Cricket Council's cricket committee recommending a qualifying competition for the 50-over tournament.

Last month the International Cricket Council said it would restrict the World Cup, which will be held next in Australia and New Zealand, to its 10 test-playing member nations only.

Fourteen teams, including Ireland who recorded a memorable win over England after beating Pakistan four years earlier, took part in this year's World Cup.

The ICC's general manager Dave Richardson says the committee decided it favoured a qualifying system for the World Cup and not restricting it to the ten full members which means the proposal will give Ireland an opportunity to qualify.
