The New Zealand Breakers star Kirk Penney will be a marked man in tonight's deciding game of their ANBL basketball semi-final series against Perth in Auckland, but the man himself says the Wildcats would be foolish to focus their energy's soley on him.
The Wildcats coach Rob Beveridge stated "we didn't get beaten by the Breakers, we got beaten by Kirk Penney" after the star guard nailed 38 points in New Zealand's 93-89 game two triumph in Perth on Sunday.
Penney though was unfazed by Beveridge's comments, claiming the top-ranked Breakers were far from a one-trick pony that relied exclusively on his hot hand.
The Perth guard Kevin Lisch, the hero in game one with 29 points, says the Wildcats have worked hard to come up with new ways to curb Penney's influence.
Lisch says the Wildcats go into the decider full of confidence after their 101-78 win in Auckland in game one.
Key Breakers forward Mika Vukona rated himself as back to "about 100 per cent" after a knee injury.
Vukona notched a game-high 10 rebounds in Perth and will play a vital role in the decider as both teams try to dominate the boards.
