Roulston's Paris-Roubaix ride in doubt

2:40 pm on 4 April 2011

The national road cycling champion Hayden Roulston will learn tonight if he has any chance of riding in the Paris-Roubaix one day race after injuring his back and shoulder after colliding with a car while out on a training ride.

Roulston was seconds from his home in Spain and says he and the driver didn't see each other but both were fortunately going slowly.

The double Olympic medallist's European campaign has already been affected by illness and this week he was due to ride in a Spanish stage race.

It was part of his buildtup to Sunday's race in France in which he finished 10th last year despite competing when he was sick.

Roulston's due to return to New Zealand next week for a break before heading to Colorado for altitude training ahead of the Tour of California in May.
