World Cup champions fined for slow over rate

The triumphant Indian cricket team has been fined for its slow over rate in yesterday's World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

India were one over short of their target and the ICC fined the captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni 20 percent of his match fee, and the test of the team were docked 10 percent.

In the circumstances, the fines amounted to little more than a slap on the wrist as the Indian Cricket Board paid every member of the World Cup-winning squad a bonus of nearly 300-thousand dollars, and skipper Dhoni and fourth other leading players received substantial six-figure sums from the Delhi government.
