Vettori's captaincy is over

1:55 pm on 30 March 2011

Daniel Vettori's three and a half year tenure as New Zealand cricket captain is over following the Black Caps elimination from the World Cup.

The New Zealanders were beaten by 5 wickets by Sri Lanka in their semi-final in Colombo.

Vettori had previously announced that the World Cup would be his last in charge of the national side with Ross Taylor expected to take over the captaincy.

He captained New Zealand in 32 tests with just 6 wins, while he won 41 of his 82 one day matches in charge.

He'll no longer play Twenty20 matches, but will continue to play test cricket and is undecided about his future in the 50 over form of the game.

New Zealand's next international tour is in Zimbabwe later this year.
