Former Open champion breaks long drought

The former British Open golf champion Paul Lawrie has ended a 9-year drought with a one stroke victory at the Andalucia Open in Malaga.

A level par final round 70 enabled the 42-year-old Scot to finish the day as he'd started it, one shot ahead of his rivals.

Lawrie, who won the 1999 British Open at Carnoustie, punched the air in delight after sinking a 15-centimetre putt to clinch the title.

The Swede Johan Edfors and Chile's Felipe Aguilar tied for second.
