Rugby Southland has received a $1.5 million rescue package, including a $500,000 dollar loan from the NZRU.
The Invercargill Licensing Trust and Community Trust of Southland have each contributed $500,000 over three years in addition to their usual grants.
The money will clear Rugby Southland's $600,000 debt and help cope with an expected loss of about $300,000 this year.
Chairman Owen Shaw says while they've made mistakes, which won't be repeated, it's no secret other provinces are in financial difficulty too.
The grants were also conditional on the appointment of a change manager and Shaw says Rugby Southland wants to recruit a new chief executive as soon as possible.
