The Central Pulse netballers are on the board in the trans-Tasman championship after defeating fellow strugglers the Canterbury Tactix 46-43 in Palmerston North.

The Pulse led 28-22 at half-time but were locked at 35-all entering the final quarter before a crucial intercept from the hosts' skipper, the Silver Fern goalkeeper Katrina Grant, turned the game.

It's just the Pulse's third win in the fourth season of the competition but comes on the back of improved showings this season.

Across the Tasman the New South Wales Swifts' inconsistent start to the season continues, losing in front of a sellout crowd at Sydney to unbeaten Queensland 57-53, the Firebirds coming from behind to , condemn the pre-season favourite Swifts to a 4-3 record - though it was their first loss in four games.

The Firebirds stay top while the Swifts slipped from second to third behind the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic.

The Pulse remain second bottom, above only the Tactix.
