England have won the Six Nations rugby championship but missed out on a grand slam, losing to Ireland 24-8 in Dublin and having to sweat on the result of the final game in Paris between France and Wales.

Luckily for the English, France bounced back from their embarrassing defeat in Italy to beat Wales 28-9 at the Stade de France, effectively handing England the title. France finish second, the Irish third and Wales fourth.

Scotland beat Italy 21-8 at Murrayfield, sending the visitors home with the wooden spoon for the fourth year in a row.
