Crusaders confirm Twickenham match

8:02 am on 16 March 2011

The Crusaders have confirmed they will play the Super Rugby match against the Sharks at Twickenham in London on the 27th of March.

It will be the first Super Rugby match played outside the SANZAR countries of New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, and has been organised after Christchurch's devastating earthquake of February 22.

The damage to AMI Stadium has stopped the Crusaders from playing there for the foreseeable future, with two of their recent home games played at Nelson's Trafalgar Park.

Both matches were sellouts and Crusaders Chief Executive Hamish Riach says their round eight match against the Bulls on April 9 will be in Timaru as they try to find a balance between playing in their region and trying to consolidate their financial situation.

The Crusaders hope the big expatriate New Zealand, Australian and South African communities in London will support the match. A percentage of every ticket sold will go to the victims of the Christchurch earthquake.
