Japan hockey team to continue NZ tour

12:34 pm on 12 March 2011

The Japan women's hockey team have confirmed they will stay in New Zealand for the five-match Test series against the Black Sticks women, despite the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan on Friday evening.

The team management from both teams met this morning to discuss whether the series should continue and discuss what support could be provided by Hockey New Zealand.

Japan team management says it's understood that their team members' families have not been affected, and that they would like the series to continue.

Hockey New Zealand will continue to be in regular contact with the Japan team and have offered their full support and assistance if required.

There are four games left in the series, which Japan currently lead 1-0, with the second Test to be played in Hamilton at 3pm Sunday afternoon.
