The NRL and West Tigers league club have decided against punishing Benji Marshall unless there's further evidence of bad behaviour or he is found guilty of his assault charge next month.
The NRL's pinup boy and Kiwis captain was charged with assault following an incident in central Sydney in the early hours of last Saturday morning in which Marshall claims to have been the subject of racist taunts.
In the meantime, the NRL's chief executive David Gallop has accepted a report from Marshall's Wests Tigers club on the incident which incidates the player had conducted himself in an exemplary manner last Saturday night before the assault allegation.
But Gallop says the NRL reserves the right to punish Marshall if its own investigations uncover evidence of his misbehaviour in the Sydney CBD.
