Auckland City have closed to within three points of Waitakere United on the national football Premiership table after a 2-1 home win over Youngheart Manawatu.
The scores were locked up at 1-1 at half-time in the rescheduled fixture, and City knew they needed to see off the bottom-placed side if they were to stay in touch with United.
The winner came from Andrew Milne to close the gap to just one game on the Aucklanders' cross-city rivals from the west, with both teams having now played 13 games.
But United have a +26 goal difference while City are +18 to the good, which could prove crucial down the stretch.
