Strike disrupted NFL season looms

6:44 pm on 2 March 2011

Talks between NFL team owners in the United States and players union representatives have but the threat of a strike-disrupted season still looms.

The current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the two parties expires on Friday and team owners and players have been unable to agree on how to divide over $10 billion in annual revenues.

Owners want to boost the regular season from 16 to 18 games a team, which would boost income for both sides.

However, players are concerned about wear and tear on their bodies, career longevity and safety issues in the sport.

Players are seeking greater benefits after their careers finish while owners want a rookie wage scale.
