Larkham in line for Brumbies job

6:17 am on 2 March 2011

The Brumbies' favourite son Stephen Larkham is being talked about as a long-term coaching solution for the Super Rugby franchise after the shock axing of Andy Friend in the final year of a three year contract.

Only two games into the season, for a win and a loss, Friend was shown the door and replaced by his senior assistant coach Tony Rea, following a board meeting yesterday morning.

While Rea has taken over as caretaker coach there's already strong speculation Larkham is being groomed for the role, having siging on this season as an attack coach.

In his playing days at the Brumbies, 36 year old Larkham was part of the senior group that reportedly swayed management to axe coach David Nucifora in 2004.
