Vettori happy after confidence boosting win

The New Zealand cricketers romped past Kenya in their first match of the cricket world cup in Chennai last night winning by 10 wickets with more than 40 overs to spare and captain Daniel Vettori says the dominant victory is just the tonic the Black Caps need after being humbled by India in their final warm up game.

The New Zealand bowlers ripped through Kenya, arguably the weakest side at the tournament, knocking them over for just 69 before openers Bredon McCullum and Martin Guptill cruised to the target in just 46 balls.

The Black Caps one day form has been poor to say the least in recent times, winning just three of their past 17 games, and Vettori says the crushing of Kenya couldn't have come at a better time.

The Black Caps next game is against Australia on Friday.
