Another gold for Shane Archbold

New Zealand's Shane Archbold has pressed his track cycling world championship medal hopes after winning the omnium in the final round of the UCI World Cup in Manchester.

The 22-year-old won three of the six disciplines in the event which will be added to the London Olympics programme.

Archbold's gold medal leaves him second overall in the world cup rankings one point behind Canada's Zach Lewis but he was the only rider to claim two wins in the four leg series.

BikeNZ's head coach Tim Carswell says the Timaru rider is really looking fantastic heading into the world championships in six weeks.

Southland's Eddie Dawkins was caught in a massive crash in the final of the keirin and finished fifth.

And Christchurch's Joanne Kiesanowski is fith after the first day of the women's omnium

The final day of competition includes the men's team pursuit.
