Breakers extend winning streak with tough win in Auckland

The New Zealand Breakers have widened the gap between them and the ANBL basketball chasing pack, after coming from behind to scrape past a depleted Perth Wildcats 82 -79 at the North Shore Events Centre last night.

The competition leaders trailed the defending champions heading into the final stages of the clash with guard CJ Bruton rescuing the hosts with some final quarter heroics.

Bruton sunk a long range three-pointer with six minutes remaining to finally give his team a lead they could defend, he then hit 4-of-4 from the free-throw line to help them survive a tense final few moments.

The Breakers veteran Paul Henare says they were pushed to the limit by the defending champion Cats.

The Breakers next visit the Gold Coast Blaze on Sunday.
