Big push for Olympic ticket sales now starts

2:59 pm on 16 February 2011

The big sell for London 2012 Olympic organisers is now underway after they released the schedule for the games.

Blue riband events such as the men's 100 metres final, featuring Usain Bolt on August 5, can guarantee a sell-out, but that's not the case for the likes of handball and badminton.

Local organisers have to raise more than a billion dollars from ticket sales and Lord Coe, the man in charge of the Games, says avoiding empty stadiums is a priority but says they can't simply cut prices.

Tickets go on sale next month and theGames start on July 25, two days before the opening ceremony in London, with women's football matches far from the British capital in Cardiff, Coventry in central England, and Glasgow.
