Tiger to be fined for spitting

The former world number one golfer Tiger Woods is to be fined for spitting during the Dubai Desert Classic at the weekend.

Tournament director Mike Stewart reviewed the incident and says he feels there has been a breach of the tour code of conduct and consequently Woods will be fined.

Officials will now write to the 35-year-old American's management team but are unlikely to publicly disclose the amount of the fine.

Woods, a 14-times major winner, was caught spitting several times by television cameras on Monday as he returned a three-over-par 75 to finish seven strokes behind winner Alvaro Quiros of Spain.

Former tour professional Ewen Murray, now a commentator, voiced his displeasure with the world number three, saying although Wood's is a credit to the game and an inspiration, at times he's simply arrogant and petulant.
