Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh is pleased with the lengthy bans handed down to three of Pakistan's players, saying it should act as a major deterrent.
Butt, along with fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, were all suspended by the International Cricket Council earlier this week for their roles in spot-fixing during last year's Test against England at Lord's.
The left-handed batsman received a 10-year ban with five years suspended, Asif was banned for seven years with two suspended, and Amir was slapped with a straight five-year ban.
Waugh says Butt had disgraced his role as the nation's captain and says it should act as a warning to others as a five year suspension means the end of most players' careers.
