Formula One team knew of risks

The Renault Formula One team says it was aware of the risks its injured driver, Robert Kubica, was taking by being involved in extra racing events.

The 26-year-old Pole was operated on for seven hours after he sustained multiple fractures to his right leg and arm after his car slammed into a wall when he was on the way to the start of a minor motor rally in Italy.

He may require further surgery and doctors have said it could take a year for him to fully recover.

Renault team boss Eric Boullier says racing is Kubica's life and they knew he was driving in other events and knew the risks involved.

Eric Boullier is hopeful that Kubica could be back in a couple of months.
