Vettori blames lack of runs for two wicket loss in Napier

6:39 am on 2 February 2011

The New Zealand cricket team were left to rue another top order collapse as they narrowly lost to Pakistan in the fourth one-dayer in Napier last night, handing the tourists a 2-1 lead in the six match series with two games left to play.

Set a modest 263 to win an unbeaten 93 by Misbah-ul-Haq looked to have Pakistan cruising to the required target, but the Black Caps came close stifling the tourist's run chase, before tailender Sohail Tanvir smashed 14 off the penultimate over to lift Pakistan to a two-wicket win with an over to spare.

The Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori says the Black Caps had their chances to win last night, but concedes their total of 263 was never going to be enough on the run happy Napier pitch.

The fifth game's in Hamilton tomorrow.
