Breakers seemingly unstoppable, even on the road

The New Zealand Breakers tightened their grip on the Australian National Basketball League minor premiership with an extraordinary come-from-behind 77-74 away win over Cairns.

The Taipans led by as many as 21 points, but they couldn't hold out the league's front runners who gave Cairns their first loss in 10 home games this season.

A 10-0 run in the third quarter got NZ back to within four points and they trailed by seven at the last break before hitting the front with just over six minutes left in the final quarter.

It was a true team effort with Thomas Abercrombie topscoring with just 15 points.

It was the Breakers' eighth away win, equalling their franchise record for an entire season.

They're two wins ahead of Perth and also have two games in hand, while Cairns are third.

The Breakers host fifth-placed Wollongong on Thursday.
