Australian amateur golfer Ashley Ona eagled her final hole to join compatriot Frances Bondad atop the leaderboard after the second round of the Royal Canberra Ladies Classic.

The pair are on nine-under par, one shot ahead of in-form Swede Caroline Hedwall, who is coming off a win in last week's Women's NSW Open, and two others, Canadian Jessica Shepley and American Alison Walsh.

Lynnette Brooky is the best of the New Zealanders in a share of 15th at three-under par alongside defending champion Kristie Smith, seven back from the leaders.

Local star Nikki Campbell is a further shot behind Brooky et al in a tie for 20th, another stroke ahead of the next-best Kiwi, Caroline Bon.
