Doherty into Australian cricket team

Australian left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty will replace the injured Nathan Hauritz in the squad for the next two one-day cricket internationals against England.

The selectors also put Peter Siddle on standby after Mitchell Johnson was ruled out of today's third one-dayer in Sydney, having failed to fully recover from a throat infection.

His pace colleague Shaun Tait is also doubtful because of an upper thigh injury sustained in Friday's match in Hobart.

Dumped from the Ashes squad, Hauritz capped his nightmarish summer by dislocating his shoulder fielding in the second one-day international on Friday, prompting selectors to draft in 22-year-old Tasmanian Doherty.

Hauritz will undergo surgery on his dislocated shoulder in an attempt to be fit for the World Cup.

Beaten comprehensibly in the Ashes, Australia have fared better in the seven-match ODI series having won the first two matches so far.
