7:26 am on 21 January 2011

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has confirm that Nick Willis will be presented with his 1500 metres silver medal at the international track meet in Christchurch on February 26.

Willis finished third in the glamour event of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, but was upgraded after the gold medallist, Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain was disqualfied for doping.

When the medal arrived about six month ago Willis said he'd like to be presented with it front of a strong home crowd and around 5000 fans are expected at QEII Stadium.

He'll compete in the 1500 metres and says he's looking forward to sharing the ceremony, which the meet director Craig Motley says is the first and possibly only time an Olympic medal will be presented in New Zealand.

Willis' main goal will be to win the race in front of the home crowd, and to secure a qualifying time for the August World Championships in South Korea .
