The Silver Ferns have beaten England 42-40 in the first netball Test in Manchester.
The New Zealanders led by four at quarter-time, five at half-time and seven at three-quarter time.
Both sides were rusty with the Silver Ferns shooters well below their best.
England closed in late in the game, but the Ferns defenders impressed and the visitors held on for the win.
The second Test is in Nottingham on Tuesday morning.
