After two years out of rugby league with a broken neck, the South Sydney forward Ben Ross will make his return as Rabbitohs captain in an NRL trial match next month.
Ross will complete his incredible comeback by leading the Bunnies out onto their spiritual home, Redfern Oval, against Newtown for their first pre-season match on Saturday February the 5th.
The 30-year-old was urged by many to retire, but his hard work and belief appears to have finally paid off and will be rewarded with the honour of skippering the famous club.
The Rabbitohs have stuck by Ross throughout the ordeal since he joined the club after suffering the injury in round one of the 2009 season when playing for Cronulla.
The former Penrith, Sharks and Queensland Origin prop, Ross has gone under the knife twice in the past two years to repair his serious neck injury, which looked on several occasions like it would end his career.
Young English forward George Burgess, the 18-year-old brother of star enforcer Sam Burgess has also been included in the 20-man squad for the trial.
