Forced to quit tennis for three years after her manager defrauded her the fortunes of WTA tour veteran Greta Arn may finally have turned.

Arn beat the former world number one and three time grand slam winner Maria Sharapova in the quarter finals of the ASB Tennis Classic in Auckland on Thursday and will play the fourth seed Julia Goerges for a place in the final.

Unlike the stars such as Sharapova, the 31-year-old Arn travels alone, keping contact with her coach by phone.

She returned to the Tour about five years ago, winning her only tournament in Portugal in 2007, and was expecting to have to qualify when she arrived in Auckland, but a couple of late withdrawals saw go straight into the main draw.

The other semi final features the defending champion Yanina Wickmayer against China's Shuai Peng ,
