England have upper hand ahead of day three of final Ashes test

7:07 am on 5 January 2011

The England cricketers will resume at 167 for three, having the upper hand into the third day of the fifth final Ashes test against Australia in Sydney.

England trail Australia by 113 runs but have seven wickets in hand, with opener Alastair Cook unbeaten on 61 and nightwatchman James Anderson on one.

Cook's lucky to be still at the crease when he was caught off the bowling of debutant Australian spinner Michael Beer, but New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden called him back and checked with the third umpire, who confirmed Beer had bowled a no ball.

England, lead the five-match series 2-1 and have already retained the Ashes.
