The back to back national road series champion Serena Sheridan is the latest New Zealand cyclist to be picked up by a top professional team.

She'll ride in Europe for the American team TIBCO next year with another New Zealander Joanne Kiesanowski.

Sheridan says joining one of the world's best professional women's teams is an important step towards her goal of a podium spot in the road race at the London Olympics.

She's been training in Nelson for the four-day Tour de Vineyards starting on New Year's Day and will also ride in the national road championships in Christchurch next Saturday and in the women's Tour of New Zealand in late February.

She'll be based in Limoux in the south of France from early March.
