Black Caps opener Brendon McCullum's blazed a double century for the shadow Test side on day one of the three-day warmup match against Pakistan at Whangarei's Cobham Oval.

McCullum's showing no signs of the back problems that kept him out of the Twenty20 series, he was finally removed for 206 with the home side 338 for four at the close of play.

Opener Tim McIntosh went for 51, BJ Watling 24 and Kane Williamson 16. James Franklin's not out 17 and Dean Brownlie is on seven.

The New Zealand XI is actually a 12 after both teams agreed to play with an extra man.

Tim Southee was the late addition for Dan Vettori's men, who won the toss and batted.
