The Australian cricketer Ryan Harris will be sidelined for two months after fracturing his tibia in the fourth Ashes test against England.

Yesterday Harris pulled up during his runup before being helped from the field in Melbourne.

Harris, who has a chronic knee injury, missed the first Brisbane test because of a setback in his recovery from surgery.

He came into the side in Adelaide and retaining his place for Perth, where he took 6-41 to help Australia to a crushing win.

The long period of convalescence will probably rule the 31-year-old out of the 50 overs World Cup, which takes place in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from February.

Harris was included in the initial 30-man squad, which must be halved before Jan. 19.
