The Pakistan cricket manager Intikhab Alam says John Wright should be given plenty of time in his new position as head coach of the BlackCaps.

Intikhab, who played County cricket against Wright says New Zealand Cricket had to do something about the Black Caps' poor form, which has extended to 11 straight losses in one day cricket.

The 68-year-old says he has a lot of respect for Wright as a player and a coach, but like anyone, he'll need time....

Intikhab, who played 47 tests for Pakistan and also coached them says he hopes the fans will get out an support the New Zealand side in the upcoming series.

Pakistan have had issues with spot fixing and currently have 3 players suspended while the New Zealanders are on an 11 match winless streak in one-dayers.

However he says the competition will be great and worth watching.

The tour starts with a warmup game against Auckland tomorrow then the three match Twenty20 series begins on Boxing Day at Eden Park.
