After months of misery and recrimination, the Australian media's rejoiced in the rebirth of what its labelled Aussie mongrel in Australia's 267 run win in the third Ashes cricket Test in Perth.

The win levels the five-Test series at one-all but it was the fast-bowling heavy sledging manner of it that seems have to have struck a chord, with Sydney's Daily Telegraph saying the Gloves Are Off.

The Australian media are now rating the Australians Ashes favourites, despite the possibility that skipper Ricky Ponting could miss the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne with a fractured finger.

Australia need at least a win and a draw in the final two matches of the series to takes the Ashes off England.
