Drogba misses penalty in Chelsea draw

12:23 pm on 14 December 2010

Chelsea's poor run in the English Premier football League continued as Didier Drogba missed a stoppage-time penalty in a 1-1 draw at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Roman Pavlyuchenko put Spurs ahead after 15 minutes but Drogba, dropped to the bench after a series of flat displays, levelled midway through the second half.

Chelsea had plenty of possession and Drogba had the chance to seal victory from the spot but the Brazilian keeper Gomez saved the striker's weak spot kick.

The ailing champions have now taken only six points from the last 21.

Remarkably, with 31 points, they are still only one behind Arsenal and Manchester City and level with Manchester United, who host Arsenal tomorrow morning.

Earlier, 10-man Bolton moved into fifth place with a 2-1 win over Blackburn and Wolverhampton clinched a crucial 1-0 win over Birmingham with their first clean sheet since April.

Despite the win, Wolves stay second from bottom.
