FFA clear Muscat to play in Melbourne derby

The Melbourne Victory football club have already had a win ahead of their A-League derby clash against the Melbourne Heart, with skipper Kevin Muscat free to play in the AAMI Park showdown on Saturday night.

Muscat escaped suspension for pushing Brisbane Roar goalkeeping coach Fernando Vaz Alvez in a fiery aftermath to their 3-3 draw last weekend.

He received a $AU 1,500 ($NZ 1,962) suspended fine, which will only be triggered if he re-offends this season, as well as an official reprimand from Football Federation Australia.

The FFA believed Muscat's action was not worthy of more than a fine, despite saying the veteran breached the game's code of conduct with his push to Vaz Alvez's stomach.

The FFA decision clears Muscat to lead his side in the derby against Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park on Saturday night, a vital match for both sides as they battle for a finals berth.
