The New Zealand Rugby Foundation says there were no serious injuries during the 2010 rugby season, at any level of the game.

The Rugby Foundation runs injury-prevention campaigns and provides financial assistance to players who have suffered a life-changing injury, and CEO Andrew Flexman says the year couldn't be any more positive.

There was an unusually high five serious injuries in 2009, and Flexman says while there's an element of luck involved, the safety message is definitely getting through, and safety and quality technique on the rugby field are improving.

Flexman says as long as rugby is played from time to time there will be random serious injuries but 2010's been a big improvement on last year.
