The chief executive of New Zealand Football Michael Glading has resigned after two and a half years in the role.

When Glading took up the role the organisation was $1.5 million in debt but has recorded its first surplus in four years.

Glading was also at the helm during the All Whites qualifying process for this year's world cup in South Africa.

He will step down from the role in March.
