The Australian golfer Geoff Ogilvy recorded the lowest four-round total in 22-years to capture the Australian Open title in Sydney on Sunday.

The 33-year-old carded a final round 69 on The Lakes course to win by four strokes with a 19-under par total.

His score is the lowest since American Mark Calcavecchia captured the 1988 Australian Open title also in Sydney.

The victory is the world number 43's second major Australian title success after the 2008 Australian PGA Championship, an event starting on at Coolum in Queensland next Thursday where Ogilvy will wind up his season.

The only event among Australia's "Big Three" that Ogilvy is yet to capture is the Australian Masters title.

Earlier this year, Ogilvy won the U.S. Tour season-opening SBS Championship in Hawaii.

Fellow Australians Matt Jones (68) and Alistair Presnell (67) shared second place at 15-under par.
