Oceania official heads to Zurich for World Cup vote

5:58 am on 30 November 2010

The Oceania Football Confederation's acting president David Chung is on his way to Zurich, hoping FIFA will allow him to take part in this week's vote to select the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts.

Chung, from Papua New Guinea, may represent Oceania in the absence of the OFC president, Tahiti's Reynald Temarii, who has been suspended for a year for breaching rules of ethics and loyalty, although he still might appeal against his suspension.

The Oceania Confederation, which met in Auckland at the weekend, believes it has the right to replace Temarii for the remainder of his term.

The World Cup host nations for 2018 and 2022 will be selected on Thursday night by FIFA's executive committee members.
