A close call for Ireland in the opening round of pool play at the Women's World Team Squash Championships in Palmerston North.

The seventh seeds had to come back from a loss in their opening rubber and were down 2-nil in their second before clawing their way back to beat India 2-1.

Meanwhile, Australia and Egypt have both made impressive starts to their campaigns.

The second seeded Aussies beat Japan 3-nil, with the entire tie lasting an hour.... five times World Champion Sarah Fitz-Gerald showed time has not dulled her silky skills, taking just 16 minutes to beat her opponent.

Likewise, Egypt didn't drop a game in its opening tie against South Africa.

New Zealand beat Canada 3-nil and will play Hong Kong today.
