Franklin to replace Ryder in One-Day squad

The Wellington all-rounder James Franklin has been called into the New Zealand cricket team for the upcoming one-day series against India as Jesse Ryder returns home from the sub-continent with a calf-injury.

Selector Mark Greatbatch says Ryder suffered the injury in the first Test and although he showed determination to push through the discomfort in the second and third Test it is clear the injury has not improved.

He says due to the condensed nature of the tour there is insufficient time for Ryder to fully recover for the One-Day matches.

Greatbatch says Franklin's ability with the bat and ball make him the best possible replacement for Ryder and the former Blackcap now has another opportunity to prove himself at international level.
