Jim Beam racing score morale boosting win

5:42 am on 22 November 2010

James Courtney did his best to shift the gloom over his Jim Beam Racing team by winning an incident-marred V8 Supercar race at Sandown.

But with financial and ownership disputes dogging the outfit, the possibility remains it could win the V8 championship and immediately fold.

Racing under intense off-track pressure, Courtney's victory means he will take a 53-point edge into the Sydney 500 finale next month.

Mark Winterbottom was second in the race and Jamie Whincup, who remains within striking distance of Courtney, was third.

Courtney says that with the confusion surrounding his team the victory was a perfect tonic after recent poor rounds.
