The marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie has reversed his decision to retire and will continue to run competitively.

The Ethiopian great announced he was quitting athletics earlier this month after dropping out of his first New York Marathon because of a knee injury.

37 year old Gebreselassie was in Ethiopia last weekend as celebrity starter for an annual 10-kilometre run, and he told officials there he'll continue to run as long as he's healthy.

Ethiopian television reported that Gebrselassie said he would continue to prepare for the 2012 London Olympics.
