Canterbury Cricket waits for Shaun Tait clearance

3:29 pm on 11 November 2010

Canterbury cricket's facing an anxious wait to see if the Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait is able to play for the Wizards in this season's domestic Twenty20 competition.

They've signed up Tait, who needs clearances from his surgeon and Cricket Australia as he's hamstring tendonitis, elbow ailments and stress issues over the past year,

He's now playing only limited overs cricket after finding test matches too tough on his body but remains capable of short bursts of very fast bowling.

Tait was clocked at 161.1kmh at Lord's this year -- the second fastest ever recorded.

The fastest is the Pakistani Shoaid Akhtar's 161.3khm at the 2003 World Cup.

In the meantime Canterbury Cricket's chief executive Lee Germon is working on a back up plan for another overseas player to join the Dutch allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate. who has already signed for T20 the season.
