Phoenix score first away win of season

5:55 am on 8 November 2010

The Wellington Phoenix football club scored inside the first minute to beat Perth Glory 1-nil and record their first A-league away win this season at nib Stadium on Sunday.

The win was a confidence booster for Wellington who went ahead early courtesy of Tim Brown who netted a scorching goal in 42 seconds, the quickest goal of the season.

The win puts the Phoenix back on the winner's list after heavy losses to top two teams Adelaide and Brisbane.

Perth's horror run continues meanwhile as the team remain winless since beating Wellington 2-1 at home back on September the 5th with the run including eight losses, a nil-all draw with Melbourne Heart on Wednesday and just two goals in nine games.

The lone goal was produced in the first attack of the game as a clumsy clear from Glory's Andy Todd saw the ball end up with Wellington's Chris Greenacre whose pass found Brown outside the box to drill it past Glory keeper Tando Velaphi.

That was enough to secure the win for the seventh placed Wellingtonians who return home to play Central Coast next Saturday while Perth travel to Adelaide on Wednesday before hosting Melbourne Victory next Sunday.
