Pietersen gets time with the bat in Perth

5:45 am on 7 November 2010

Kevin Pietersen spent some valuable time in the middle but the same couldn't be said for the rest of England's recognised batsmen as Western Australia took control of the cricket tour match at the WACA Ground.

At stumps on day two, the Warriors were 109 for 1 in their second innings, holding an overall lead of 128, after England declared their first innings at 223 for 8.

England now left to rely on a sporting Warriors declaration to have any chance of securing the victory they promised they would chase.

England were lucky to even make it past 200 after slumping to 117 for 7 and 159 for 8.

Pietersen's 58 off 90 balls, which featured nine boundaries, was the only notable score among England's top seven.
