Roulston makes his move

Hayden Roulston has won the seventh stage of the Tour of Southland cycle race while Jack Bauer now wears the yellow jersey after he finished second behind the BikeNZ rider in a sprint.

Former leader Jeremy Yates, Bauer's Share The Road team-mate, finished in the peleton, a minute and 42 seconds back on the 64-kilometre ride from Winton to Invercargill.

Roulston's now just three seconds behind Bauer in the overall race classification while Yates is now a minute 24 behind.

On Thursday Yates collided with an official's motorbike but the etiquette of his rival Roulston meant the champion didn't have to pay the price.

Yates came off less than a kilometre from the finish of the sixth stage on the Crown Range when he clipped a support motorbike but Roulston, who was at the front of the peleton at the time, waited for Yates to get back on his bike.

Yates called that a classy decision.
